EUREKA – Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a couple yesterday morning after finding nearly four grams of methamphetamine in their motel room. At about 8:15 Sunday morning, a deputy received a report of a stolen Rascal Scooter. A short time later, deputies were conducting follow-up to the theft report when they contacted Johnnie Mahan Jr., 49, who was staying at a Eureka motel. The stolen motorized scooter was in front of the room Mahan rented. After interviewing Mahan, deputies arrested him for grand theft. Mahan’s girlfriend gave deputies consent to search the motel room they shared with their two small children. Inside the motel room deputies found 3.9 grams of methamphetamine, several glass pipes, a digital scale, and oleoresin capsicum (pepper) spray. Mahan’s girlfriend, Hannah Mouser, 20, was also placed under arrest.
Both were transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where they were booked for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Johnnie Mahan Jr. was also booked for grand theft, possession of stolen property, theft from an elderly person, and possession of a controlled substance for sale. Both are expected to be arraigned by Wednesday.
Their children were placed in protective custody.
