The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the graduation of Lt. Dave Morey from the FBI National Academy. The mission of the FBI National Academy – based in Quantico, Virginia - is "to support, promote, and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic, and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research, and forging partnerships throughout the world,” according to the FBI’s website. Participation in the academy is by invitation only, through a nomination process.
During the ten-week academy, Lt. Morey’s classes included Leadership for Law Enforcement, Behavioral Sciences in Cyberspace, Interpersonal Violence, Interviewing Strategies through Statement Analysis, Leadership for Law Enforcement, Psychosocial Behavior and Trends in Violent Prison and Street Gangs, and Fitness for Law Enforcement. It should be noted that Lt. Morey earned A’s in all his classes.
Lt. Morey has been with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for 26 years. Currently, he is the North Area Commander, which includes the McKinleyville, Hoopa, Blue Lake, and Trinidad Stations, Animal Control, and the Humboldt County Regional Airport. Lt. Morey is the Field Training Commander, the Air Auxiliary Commander and Crisis Negotiations Team Commander. Lt. Morey has been married for 13 years and has an 11-year-old daughter.
