Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a “man down” Saturday near U.S. Highway 101 and Newton Road in Weott. At about 1:45 pm, deputies arrived and found a man bleeding and non-responsive. Nearby residents had discovered the injured man and called 911. The victim, identified as Brian Taylor, 37 of Garberville, was transported to a local hospital where he was stabilized. Later Saturday evening he was flown to an out-of-the-area hospital for further treatment. Taylor remains hospitalized.

Due to the nature of Taylor’s injuries, deputies determined he was the victim of an assault. The detail and nature of his injuries is being withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation. Deputies are actively continuing the investigation and are following-up on leads. Anyone with information regarding this assault should call Detective Steve Quenell at (707) 268-3646.
