On 02-12-2012 the Humboldt Sheriff's Office was notified of a boating accident on Humboldt Bay near Fields Landing. The survivor Carl Crittenden was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital suffering from hypothermia. Crittenden said he weas crabbing in the Samoa channel when a large cabin cruiser went by and the wake capsized his boat. Crittenden said he did not think they even knew they did it. Crittenden tried to swim to shore for about 40 minutes when he saw another boat and yelled for help. The boat operated by Richard McMahn and Brandon Trone stopped and pulled him aboard. They took him back to the Fields Landing boat ramp and called 911. Crittenden was treated and kept overnight for observatioin.
