An inmate in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility died this morning from an apparent suicide. The 23 year-old Arcata man, was found not breathing, alone in his locked cell, by a correctional officer at about 9:00 AM. An ambulance was called while Correctional Officers performed CPR. The man was then transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital via ambulance where he was pronounced dead. He had been in custody since his arrest by Arcata Police Department on September 03, 2003. He was facing two felony marijuana charges. The man’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
This is the first suicide in the facility in 2003; there were no suicides in the facility in 2002.
