On 09-08-2003 at approximately 5:00 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit served a search warrant at a residence located in the Island Mountain area of southern Humboldt County. Deputies located a sophisticated indoor marijuana growing operation inside of the residence. Deputies seized 862 growing marijuana plants that ranged in size from 1 inch to 6 feet. Deputies seized a loaded mini- 14 rifle from inside of the residence. Deputies arrested John Larue Oberdorf age 31 at the scene for cultivation and possession for sales of marijuana.
Deputies discovered that electrical power to the indoor marijuana growing operation was being supplied by a 70 k/w diesel generator that was buried 15 feet
underground. Deputies noticed that diesel fuel and oil had been spilled onto the groung next to the buried generator. The diesel generator was buried on a hill side above a creek. Deputies then contacted Humboldt County Environmental Health who responded to the scene to investigate the diesel and oil spill.
This case is still under investigation.
