Additional Information is being released regarding last Wednesday’s shooting in the Arcata area. Shortly after 7:00 PM on October 15, 2003 Arcata Police Department received a call from Mad River Community Hospital reporting a shooting victim. A 33-year-old man had been shot once in the upper body. Arcata Police Department’s preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting took place on Heindon Road, outside of Arcata’s city limits and, therefore, within the Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction. The Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation but is working closely with the Arcata Police Department.
Sheriff’s Detectives strongly believe the attempted murder is related to a marijuana transaction. Investigators are looking for three African-American male adults, all believed to be in their late teens or early twenties. The men were last seen driving a rented 2003 gold Buick 4-door sedan.
The victim of the shooting is in stable condition and he is expected to survive.
