Humboldt County Sheriff Gary Philp is pleased to announce the promotion of George Cavinta to Lieutenant. George has been with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office since 1983. Lt. Cavinta will assume command of the North Area Division, which includes the McKinleyville and Hoopa Stations, and the Orick and Orleans resident posts. Previous to his promotion Lt. Cavinta served as the McKinleyville Station Sergeant. Additionally, he has worked as a Correctional Officer, in the Drug Enforcement Unit, as a Field Training Officer, and as a member of the Special Enforcement Team.
Lt. Cavinta is a long-time Eureka resident, graduating from St. Bernard’s Catholic High School. He attended College of the Redwoods Police Academy where he earned his P.O.S.T. certificate. Lt. Cavinta has also been an instructor/Recruit Training Officer at the College of the Redwoods Police Academy since 1998.
Lt Cavinta has been married to his wife Diana for twelve years and they have three children.
