Because of serious budget cutbacks, Humboldt County Sheriff Gary Philp has been forced to reallocate some of his staff. The Garberville and Hoopa Stations will each lose their Correctional Officer as both officers have been moved back into the main correctional facility in Eureka. Additionally, the Hoopa Station will loose its long-time Senior Legal Office Assistant Pam Sundberg as she has also been reassigned to the Sheriff’s station in Eureka.
However, in order to continue providing accessible law enforcement in the Hoopa area, Sheriff Philp has established a toll-free telephone number. Residents in the Hoopa/Willow Creek/Orleans area will be still be able to call the Hoopa Station directly. But in the event that nobody is available to take the call, residents can call the toll-free number which will connect them to the Eureka Station. The toll-free number will be activated on Sunday, November 09, 2003.

The staffing levels for deputies at both stations will remain unaffected by these moves. Neither station is closing.
