Subject: Fundraiser's Bicycle Stolen
Contact: Brenda Gainey
Case No#: 200403330
Released By: Brenda Gainey, PIO

Location: McKinleyville

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a stolen bicycle in McKinleyville this morning, but discovered the case had an unfortunate twist: the owner of the bicycle was one half of a fundraising bicycling team. At about 7:30 this morning Albert Brown, 20 of Bloomfield Hills, MI, called the Sheriff’s office to report that his bicycle had been stolen. Brown and his companion Ryan Connery, 20 of Troy, MI were participating in a fundraising campaign in which the duo planned to ride their bicycles from California to Michigan. They were raising money for an organization called Canines for Disabled Kids (www.caninesforkids.org). Brown and Connery were camping with permission at the First Baptist Church in McKinleyville on Murray Road. Sometime during the night someone walked off with Brown’s bicycle and two saddlebags.

The stolen bicycle is a men’s 27-speed Bianchi brand, San Remo model touring bike. It is light blue in front, gradating to dark blue in back.

Brown and Connery have tentative plans to stay in the McKinleyville area for a few days in hopes that, with enough media attention, the bicycle might be returned.
