The staff at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Animal Shelter would like to remind pet owners to keep their dogs and cats in a secure place on Halloween night. Pets often become scared as “Trick or Treaters” roam the neighborhood knocking on doors and ringing doorbells. Dogs can become lost or confused, or traffic hazards if they not on a leash while following family members down the street. If you do decide to take your dog out for a walk, make sure it is on a leash.

Do not feed chocolate to your dog or cat, as it is toxic to them and can make them very sick.

Having your dog licensed is cheap insurance should your dog become lost. If you dog or cat is lost, please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Animal Shelter immediately. The Shelter is located at 980 Lycoming Avenue, McKinleyville, (off Airport Road). The phone number is (707) 840-9132.
