On 03-21-2005 at 8:00 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a telephone from a citizen regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a business on Myrtle Avenue. The citizen stated that they believed the vehicle may be associated with the sales of narcotics. When Deputies arrived in the area they located the vehicle described by the citizen. Deputies then contacted two occupants of the vehicle who they identified as Rickie Shane Cook age 30 from Eureka and Cornelius Demar Pough, age 32, from Fortuna.
When Deputies were speaking to Pough and Cook they could detect the odor of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. Deputies then searched the vehicle they located 1 pound of processed marijuana. Deputies also located $23,900 in cash underneath the driver's seat.
When Deputies searched Pough they located $7,500 in cash in his pants pocket. When Deputies searched Cook they located $1,045 in cash in his pants pocket. Deputies then arrested Pough and Cook for possession of marijuana for sales and for transportation of marijuana.
The Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit was contacted and responded to the scene. A search warrant was obtained for Cook’s residence located in the 500 block of Gatliff Avenue, Eureka. Deputies found evidence of an indoor marijuana growing operation at the residence that had been recently harvested.
Deputies obtained a consent to search for Pough’s residence located in the 1700 block of Blue Jay Court, Fortuna. When Deputies searched Pough’s residence they located evidence of an indoor marijuana growing operation that had been recently harvested.
Deputies seized a total of $32,445 in cash from Cook and Pough for possible asset seizure.
This case is still under investigation.
