Location: Manila

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man late yesterday afternoon after finding drugs and hypodermic syringes in his vehicle. At about 4:20 p.m. deputies were sent to Manila when they received a report of two young children left unsupervised possibly due to drug activity in the area. When deputies arrived they found Utah Boyd, 40 of Eureka, sitting in a pick-up truck with two children. The children had been left in Boyd’s care by their mother. Boyd had a warrant for his arrest and was also on parole. Deputies arrested Boyd for the warrant and the children’s mother returned and took custody of them.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found fifteen hypodermic syringes, nine grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than 130 grams of marijuana, miscellaneous pills, digital scales and packaging materials. These items were all found in the passenger compartment where the children had been sitting.

Boyd was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on the charges listed on the warrant: driving on a suspended license and a probation violation. Additionally, he was booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of marijuana (more than one ounce), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic syringe, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Boyd is not eligible for bail due to his parole status. He is expected to be arraigned by Friday.
