The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Animal Shelter would like to remind pet owners of the dangers associated with the Fourth of July and their animals. Every Fourth of July brings loud noises and disturbing activities that may frighten animals, causing otherwise docile and friendly pets to become agitated or frightened. We urge pet owners to please keep their pets securely contained and in as quiet an area as possible. To prevent the possibility of your animal being injured, do not allow your pet to be in the vicinity of fireworks. Every Fourth of July shelters across the country are flooded with reports of lost or found animals that were frightened by fireworks. Please don’t let your pet become part of a statistic that could easily be prevented.

Be sure to license your dog and to have an identification tag on your pet so that if it does become lost we can reunite it with you. If your pet does get lost please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff Animal Shelter at (707) 840-9132. We also recommend that you come into the shelter and look for your pet or check our website at www.petharbor.com to view the animals at the shelter. If you find a lost animal, please report it to the appropriate law enforcement/ animal regulatory agency where the animal was found.
