On May 14, 2006, two Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Garberville Station were attempting to locate a reckless driver on Upper Sawmill Road in Garberville. While driving in the 2800 block of Upper Sawmill Road, the deputies smelled the odor of green marijuana. The deputies exited their vehicle and checked the area. They located three camouflaged buildings hidden under the tree canopy. Evidence of a commercial marijuana grow operation was located as well.
The deputies contacted the Sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit, which obtained a search warrant for the property. The warrant was served on May 18, 2006 at about 9:00 a.m. Deputies found 2,021 growing marijuana plants and a 70-kilowatt diesel generator. The marijuana and generator were seized as evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
