The 75 year-old man missing since yesterday afternoon was found safe and uninjured at about noon today. Ivan Ranier was located by Sheriff’s Deputies on Mountain View Road, about four miles from the Kneeland residence where he had original been reported missing. Mr. Ranier had left the residence (on Jack Shaw Road) Thursday afternoon to take a walk. When he failed to return, friends contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and search and rescue efforts were initiated.
After he was found today, Mr. Ranier reported that he had become disoriented and had taken shelter for the night in and abandoned house. At daylight this morning he started walking again.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the California Department of Forestry’s Kneeland Helicopter and Ground crews and the many citizens of the Kneeland area who helped in the search for Mr. Ranier.
