Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a McKinleyville man Monday afternoon for felony vandalism. In the past few months the McKinleyville area had seen an increase in graffiti “tags” on street signs, fences, mailboxes, telephone poles, and electrical junction boxes. Through his investigative effort, Deputy Greg Bickel had identified Jacob Jedediah O’Neal, 18, as a suspect and had been looking for him.
At about 11:00 a.m. Monday morning Deputy Bickel – who is the School Resource Office for McKinleyville and Arcata High Schools - was told that two witnesses has seen just seen O’Neal “tagging” a building at McKinleyville High School. Deputy Bickel spotted O’Neal crossing a baseball field and he placed O’Neal under arrest.
O’Neal was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Because the cost of the defacement and damage exceeds several thousand dollars, O’Neal was booked for felony vandalism. His bail has been set at $15,000 and he is expected to be arraigned this afternoon.
