On 7/29/07 at 2320 hours, a deputy attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Central Avenue at Bella Vista Hill, McKinleyville. The vehicle failed to stop and merged onto southbound Highway 101 and reached speeds of about 80 MPH attempting to evade the deputy. The deputy pursued the vehicle on Highway 101 to the eastbound Highway 299 overpass, Arcata.

On the overpass the driver fled from the vehicle and ran back across Highway 101. After a short foot chase deputies and an Arcata Police Officer arrested the driver without incident. The driver was identified as Dustin King (age 20) of Eureka. Deputies also learned that King was a wanted Parolee out of Sacramento.

The vehicle a Ford Explorer had been reported stolen from Lake County. A juvenile passenger was also in the vehicle at the time of the pursuit. The juvenile was detained and later released to parents.

Officers from the Arcata Police Department and the California Highway Patrol assisted the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
