On 2-21-08, a resident on Brian Lane, Humboldt Hill Area,Eureka reported his 1993 Red Ford Ranger pickup truck was stolen from his open garage between 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded and investigated the crime.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. another deputy sheriff located the stolen 1993 Red Ford Ranger Pickup at the Herrick Avenue “park and ride”, Eureka with a different set of license plates on it. An investigation revealed those license plates were reported stolen from a different vehicle. David Dressel, 37 years, a transient and a 17-year old juvenile female were located in the stolen truck and were arrested. Upon further investigation by the deputy and other deputies who arrived on scene to assist, they learned another stolen vehicle might be located nearby.

The deputies immediately began searching the area and located a stolen White Dodge Ram 350 in a nearby church parking lot, located in the 4500 block of F Street, Eureka. The Dodge Ram Truck also had stolen license plates on it, which belonged to a 2006 Jeep reported stolen out of Redding, California. Deputies determined the Dodge truck was reported stolen from Cortez, Colorado. Deputies also learned there was a possible stolen travel trailer taken from Oregon associated with the suspects, and it was located in the Orick area. Deputies located the stolen travel trailer near the Little Red School House, Orick. Inside the stolen travel trailer deputies located items believed to be associated with manufacturing methamphetamine. The Humboldt County Drug Task Force was called into assist. A search warrant was obtained for the travel trailer and served on it at approximately 10:30 am by Humboldt County Drug Task Force Agents. Located inside the trailer were chemicals consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

Dressel was arrested for vehicle theft, burglary, possession of stolen property, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture methamphetamine and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The juvenile female was booked into juvenile hall for possession of stolen property and drug paraphernalia.
