The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public regarding a dog bit that happened last Sunday, March 16 on the river bar in Fortuna. At about 2:00 that afternoon two dogs began fighting. The owner of one of the dogs was bitten as he attempted to break up the dogs; he did not realize he was bitten until later. Not knowing a person had been bitten, the owner of the second dog left the scene with his dog. Without information about the status of the rabies vaccination of the second dog, the bite victim may have to undergo a series of rabies shots.
The Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from a witness or involved party to Sunday’s incident. It does not appear that there was anything criminal in nature about the case; the Sheriff’s Office is only seeking information. The owner of the second dog was driving a late 1990’s Dodge full-size truck, bright blue, with a lumber rack, a 4-inch lift kit, and large front bumper that could hold a winch. The dog was a medium size tan and white pit bull mix.
Anyone with information should call the Humboldt Sheriff’s Animal Shelter at (707) 840-9326.
