At about 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, 4/26/08, a traffic collision occurred in the Loleta area involving a Sheriff’s patrol car. The driver and sole occupant of the patrol car, Deputy Sheriff Anthony Gomes, was driving south on Eel River Drive between Main Street and Summer Street when his car was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that was being driven north on Eel River Drive.
The driver of the Tahoe SUV, Joshua Roberts, 20 of Loleta, sad that he began to lose control of hi vehicle and in an attempt to regain control he crossed over into the southbound traffic lane and struck the patrol car on the driver’s side, forcing both vehicle off the roadway. Mr. Roberts, a passenger in his vehicle and his dog were all uninjured.
Deputy Gomes was treated and released at Redwood Memorial Hospital. Deputy Gomes is expected to return to duty in seven to 10 days.
Both vehicles had to be towed away and the California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the collision.
