Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Eureka man after finding him in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun during a traffic stop early this morning. At about 12:15 a.m. a deputy sheriff conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation on Cannibal Island Road in Loleta. The deputy contacted the driver and his three passengers and advised them of the reason for the stop. The deputy learned that one of the passengers, Brendan Santos Hinman, 19, was on felony probation with a search clause. The deputy asked the occupants if there was anything illegal in the vehicle and Hinman handed the deputy a baggie that contained marijuana and two vials that Hinman said contained “hash oil.” A second deputy arrived to assist and all four occupants exited the vehicle. Deputies searched the rear passenger area of the vehicle where Hinman had been sitting. They found a loaded handgun tucked under the seat. Hinman was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm and possession of concentrated cannabis. His bail has been set at $10,000 and he is expected to be arraigned by Wednesday.
