Yesterday, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies, working with the U.S. Forest Service, arrested a man and seized marijuana in the process of being harvested on U.S. Forest Service property. At an outdoor marijuana grow site near U.S. Forest Service Route 1 (off of State Route 299), deputies found 1,200 growing marijuana plants, 600 drying marijuana plants, and 3,000 marijuana plants that had been harvested. Additionally they seized 17 pounds of processed marijuana.

At the site, U.S. Forest Service agents arrested Francisco Aparisio Chavez, 21, of Michoacán, Mexico. Chavez was within arm’s reach of a loaded pistol-grip, pump-action shotgun. Deputies also found a loaded assault rifle at the grow site. Chavez was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana. He is not eligible to bail due to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer.
