The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public in locating a firearm that may have fallen out of a vehicle after a traffic collision. Early on the morning of November 24, 2008 a woman was injured near the 8000 block of Fickle Hill Road. She tried to continue down the road, until she crashed into the brush at the 3000 block of Fickle Hill Road. She was able to walk to a nearby residence where medical aid was summoned. The woman indicated there was a firearm in her vehicle but she wasn’t sure where it was. Deputies searched the vehicle and did not find a firearm. It was also possible that the handgun fell from the vehicle. Deputies have returned to the five-mile stretch of involved roadway several times throughout the past week in an attempt to locate the missing handgun; it has not been recovered. The gun is believed to be a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun. If anyone found the firearm, they are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251. The Sheriff’s Office would like to stress the importance of locating the handgun to confirm that it can be secured in a safe manner.
