A Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested two people early this morning after discovering a loaded handgun and narcotics during a traffic stop. Shortly before 1:00 a.m. a deputy sheriff conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle; the car stopped on Fortuna Blvd. When the deputy approached the vehicle he smelled the odor of marijuana. The driver, Gilbert Bottom, 44 of Klamath, indicated there was marijuana in the car and added there was a loaded pistol under the driver’s seat. The deputy had Bottom and his passenger, Nancy Herzog-Bottom, 57 of Kneeland, exit the vehicle. The deputy recovered the loaded weapon. The deputy also found a quarter pound of marijuana under the driver’s seat. The deputy found two plastic bags containing marijuana in the trunk, 31.6 grams and 24.3 grams.
The deputy arrested Bottom and Herzog-Bottom and searched both. Bottom had a bag containing 42.2 grams of marijuana in his jacket. Herzog-Bottom had two plastic bottles of morphine and a bottle of morphine pills. Additionally, she was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.
Both were transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Bottom was booked for possession of a concealed firearm, transportation of marijuana, and a vehicle equipment violation. Herzog-Bottom was booked for possession of a narcotic controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled without a prescription. Both are expected to be arraigned by Wednesday.
