Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Hoopa woman early this morning after she called 9-1-1 and reported that she had shot someone. At about 1:00 a.m. Sheriff’s Emergency Dispatchers received a call from Amanda Louise Chenault, 26, who told them she had shot Benjamin Todd Marshall, 30, also of Hoopa. Chenault gave directions to her residence in Hoopa of off Mill Creek Road, where the incident occurred. Chenault indicated she had left the residence and was waiting for law enforcement nearby. Hoopa Valley Tribal Police Officers arrived and found Chenault where she said she would be. At the residence, Sheriff’s Deputies and Hoopa Valley Tribal Police Officers found that Marshall had been shot once. Medical personnel stabilized Marshall and transported him to an area hospital. Marshall is in critical condition.

Chenault was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on one count of attempted murder. Preliminary reports indicate that Marshall and Chenault were in a domestic relationship. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate.
