Location: Ferndale

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested four people last night after receiving a report of a stabbing in Ferndale. At about 10:30 p.m. deputies responded to a residence on the 800 block of Waddington Road and found that Juan Pedro Sanchez, 20 of Eureka, had been stabbed in the arm and the head with a small knife. A sheriff’s deputy found a group of five teenagers who matched the suspects’ descriptions walking nearby. He detained them and upon further investigation learned they had, in fact, been involved in the assault.

Deputies and officers from the Ferndale Police Department learned that the five teenagers went to the residence on Waddington Road with the intention of assaulting another juvenile girl. Upon their arrival, one of the five girls waited outside while the other four entered the house. They were confronted by Mr. Sanchez who told them to leave. The four teenagers assaulted him, with one of them stabbing him with a knife.

Deputies arrested Janice Lee Chandler, 18 of McKinleyville, and transported her to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. She was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, and disorderly conduct. Her bail has been set at $50,000 and she is expected to be arraigned by Monday.

Of the remaining teenagers, three were arrested for assault and battery, conspiracy, and disorderly conduct. They were transported to Humboldt County Juvenile Hall. The fifth juvenile in the group was determined to have not participated in the assault and was released to a guardian. The teenagers’ names are being withheld due to their ages.

Mr. Sanchez was treated at a local hospital and released.
