A Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested a Sebastopol man Friday after finding ten pounds of marijuana in his car during a traffic stop. Deputy Robert Hamilton was on patrol on U.S. Highway 101 at mile marker 25 (near Salmon Creek) at about noon when he made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle driven by Louey Kachinsky. Upon contacting Kachinsky, 33, Deputy Hamilton smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from Kachinsky’s car. Kachinsky told Deputy Hamilton he had a small amount of marijuana in his possession for personal use. When asked if he had a Prop. 215 recommendation, Kachinsky provided one that was expired. Kachinsky also handed the deputy a zip lock baggie containing dried marijuana. Deputy Hamilton continued to smell the strong odor of marijuana and asked Kachinsky if there was more marijuana in his vehicle. Kachinsky indicated there was another ten pounds of marijuana. The deputy detained Kachinsky and located the ten pounds of processed marijuana inside the car. The marijuana was wrapped in ten individual bags, each weighing one pound.
Kachinsky was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. He was booked for possession of marijuana for sale and the transportation of marijuana, both felonies. He was released from custody the same day after posting bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on March 02, 2009.
