On 3/11/2009, at 6:45 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Multi-Agency SWAT team served a “high risk” search warrant at a residence on Rice Lane in Hoopa. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police Department. Law enforcement officials were attempting to take Alvin Lee Wingo Jr., 49, into custody for an alleged assault with a deadly weapon offense, which occurred on March 7, 2009 in the evening hours.
On March 7, 2009, Alvin Wingo was alleged to have pointed a pistol grip shotgun at two other men. Wingo was reported to have “racked” (placing a shotgun shell into the chamber) the weapon, getting it ready to fire. Wingo was reported to have chased one of the men as he fled from him. Both men were able to escape from Wingo, but were afraid for their safety.
Alvin Wingo is a convicted felon and is prohibited from having access/control of firearms.
Alvin Wingo wasn’t at the residence during the execution of the search warrant.
Drugs and firearms were recovered from the Wingo residence.
Michael William Logan, 29, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana for sales and a parole violation.
Juanita Wingo, 47, was issued a felony “Notice to Appear” citation for possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana and illegal firearms inside her residence and within her control.
A female juvenile was issued a misdemeanor citation for providing false information to law enforcement regarding her identity.
Marijuana, methamphetamine, ammunition, hypodermic syringes, three handguns, five rifles, one shotgun (sawed off barrel) and one converted assault rifle were recovered during the search warrant of the Wingo residence. Two of the firearms recovered were reported stolen in late 2008.
Alvin Lee Wingo Jr. is a Hispanic male adult, 49-years-old, 5’8” tall, weighing about 235 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He has multiple tattoos on his arms, legs, back, and chest, including the word “Indian” tattooed on his left arm and “Pride” tattooed on his right arm.
