Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man last night after a woman was badly beaten in Hoopa. At about 10:15 pm deputies were dispatched to reports of an assault at the Alameda Trailer Park on Highway 96. Deputies responded with Officers from Hoopa Tribal Police Department. They found an unresponsive 57 year-old female lying on the floor of her residence. There was evidence that she had been beaten. The woman was taken to Mad River Hospital by ambulance. At the scene Hoopa Tribal Police detained Russell Bud Markussen, 41 of Hoopa. After talking to witnesses, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Markussen. He was transported to the Sheriff’s Hoopa Station where he became combative with deputies. He was restrained and then transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. He was booked on charges of Assault with Great Bodily Injury (a felony) and Resisting, Obstructing, or Delaying a Peace Officer. His bail has been set at $50,000. No other information about the condition of the victim is available due to new privacy laws.
