Early this morning Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Garberville motel after receiving a report of shots fired there. Just after 1:00 a.m. a man renting a room at the Garberville Motel on Redwood Drive reported that two men were outside his door yelling at him. When he looked through the peephole, he saw one of the men was armed with a rifle. The victim moved to the bathroom of his motel room and called 911. While he was on the phone with Sheriff’s Dispatchers, one of the suspects fired the rifle six or seven times into his door. The caller tentatively identified one of the suspects. A responding deputy spotted two men walking away from the motel and he recognized one of the subjects as one of the men identified by the victim. The deputy detained the two men and located a loaded rifle on the ground a few feet from the men. The victim positively identified the two men and they were both arrested. They were transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Chris David Collins was, 58 of Garberville, was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and a probation violation. He is ineligible to post bail due to his probation status. Christopher William Dalzin, 22 of Garberville, was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. His bail was set at $100,000. Both men are expected to be arraigned by Wednesday. No injuries were reported.
