GARBERVILLE – Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man late Saturday night after finding him in possession of methamphetamine, heroin, and a loaded handgun. At about 10:00 p.m. on July 30 a deputy responded to a report of possible drug activity on Upper Sawmill Road near Alderpoint Road. The deputy drove to the area and saw vehicles parked near the roadway. The deputy contacted two men who were standing near the vehicles. As he approached the men he could smell the odor of marijuana. One of the men, Ryan Floyd, 28 of Redway, told the deputy there was some marijuana “shake” in the truck, claiming he had found it at the side of the road. The deputy — whose back-up was 15 minutes away — detained both men in handcuffs. The deputy looked in the back of Floyd’s truck and saw a large garbage bag containing dried marijuana buds and marijuana plants. A second garbage bag contained dried marijuana that was mostly stems. Inside Floyd’s truck the deputy found a loaded handgun with a live round in the chamber.
The following items were found during a complete search of Floyds’ vehicle and person:
A loaded firearm
3.5 grams of heroin
1.7 grams of methamphetamine
0.8 grams of cocaine
47 growing marijuana plants
Three garbage bags containing processed marijuana.
Floyd was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. He was booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a narcotic controlled substance, carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, and the transportation or sales of marijuana. He posted bail in the amount of $50,000 and was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 12, 2010
