Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a woman early yesterday morning after finding more that two grams of heroin in her purse. Shortly after midnight, deputies were called to grocery store on the 2500 block of Harris Street in Eureka. An employee at the store reported that a woman had attempted to shoplift items from the store. When the suspect was confronted, she left her purse in the store and fled. A deputy searched the purse and found 2.4 grams of heroin inside. An employee provided a description of the suspect and her direction of travel (on foot). Deputies found the suspect near the intersection of Dolbeer and Russ Streets and detained her. Deputies arrested Brandi Smith, 33 of Eureka. Smith was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for possession of a narcotic controlled substance and a probation violation. Her bail was set at $25,000 and she is expected to be arraigned by Wednesday.
