On 12-1-2011, approximately 02:30 a.m. the Sheriffs Office was notified of an alarm activation at the Garberville Post Office located on Sprowel Creek Road, Garberville. When the first deputy arrived on scene he located an opened interior door with fresh pry marks on it. The deputy looked inside and spotted an adult male rummaging through postal service drawers. The deputy detained the suspect until an additional deputy and a California Highway Patrol ( C.H.P.) officer arrived on scene to assist.
The deputies and CHP officer searched the remaining building and found no one else. The lone male suspect was identified as Andrew Clayton Sheid, 33 years of age from Fortuna. Sheid was searched and the deputy located pry tools and a postal package not addressed to Sheid hidden in Sheid’s clothing. Sheid was arrested for burglary, possession of burglar tools and public intoxication and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. His bail is set at $50,000.00.
