On Monday, March 5, 2012 at approximately 11:15 a.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dog in the swift water of the Eel River in Scotia. A concerned citizen saw the dog in the water near Carpenter Park and believed that it was drowning. An Animal Control Officer responded to Carpenter Park and saw two dogs, a German Shepherd puppy and a black Kelpie, stranded on an small outcropping on the West side of the river. The Officer recalled seeing a posting on Craigslist earlier that morning of two dogs missing from the Rio Dell area since Saturday, March 3, that fit the description of the dogs. A Deputy from the Marine Division of the Sheriff’s Office responded and both dogs were safely removed from the river bar. The dogs were cold and scared, but otherwise in good health. The owner was contacted and reunited with the dogs at the scene.
