On 02-23-2012, the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office was contacted by the biological father of a ten month old child regarding a possible parental child abduction by the child’s mother, Rebecca Judith Nelson, 42 years old from McKinleyville. The father informed the Sheriffs Office the mother had fled with his child to an unknown location and he had not seen his child since December 2011. The father had been awarded physical custody of his child by Humboldt County Superior Court on February 11, 2012 and he provided the investigating deputy with a copy of the court order.
Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were able to find a possible location for Rebecca Nelson in Kona, Hawaii. The investigating deputy contacted a Humboldt County Superior Court Judge and obtained a felony warrant for Nelson’s arrest with a bail amount of $50,000.00. The deputy contacted the Hawaii Police Department in Kona, Hawaii. The Hawaii Police Officers went to the location provided by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy and arrested Nelson on the felony arrest warrant. She was booked into jail in Hawaii. The child was located and reunited with his father.
