On the above date at about 2:10 AM, Deputies responded to the McKinleyville Safeway Store located at 1503 City Center Road to investigate a reported burglary.
When Deputies arrived they learned two suspects had entered teh store and removed a cash drawer from one of the registers at a checkout lane, where there was no clerk. The suspects then fled the store with the cash drawer and wre last seen leaving the parking lot in a westerly direction in a yellow older model Cheverole El Camino with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Based on witness statements and store surveillance footage one suspect was identified as Theodore Nelson, age 39 of McKinleyville. The second suspect, a female, has yet to be identified.
At about 2:50 AM, Deputies locate the El Camino, unoccupied, in the 2300 block of Central Avenue. The area was searched but the suspects were not located.
At about 5:50 AM, Deputies located Nelson and the unidentified female in the 1400 block of Reasor Road. Deputies arrested Nelson. However, the female fled from Deputies and is still outstanding.
Nelson was booked into the HCCF for Burglary and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
The Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help in identifying the female suspect. The female is only described as an adult white female with dark hair. She was last seen wearing a light colored top and blue jeans.
