On 09-28-2012, approximately 7:20 a.m., a citizen called the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office regarding a group of six males exiting the woods behind Winship Jr. High School and Glen Paul School, off Cypress Avenue, Eureka. After sighting the group of males exiting the woods, a school maintenance worker checked the woods to see what they had been doing. The maintenance worker discovered the remains of a campfire and two additional fires burning in the woods. Meantime a second caller reported about another fire behind Glen Paul School. When Humboldt Bay Fire and Cal-Fire arrived they discovered four more fires burning and two smoldering in the woods. Humboldt Bay Fire District personnel told deputies this is the third incident in the last two weeks where they have been called out regarding multiple burning in an area at one time in the woods. One time was in the McKay tract.
The suspects are described as 18-20 years of age, four white males and two black males; they were all wearing baggy clothes and jackets. Two of the white males were very thin with crew cut hair.
