Location: McKinleyville

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a McKinleyville man last Monday in connection with numerous burglaries. Just before noon on Monday a Fieldbrook resident reported that a man, later identified as twenty-one year-old Daryl Lee Stiles, had attempted to break in to his garage. When the resident confronted Stiles, the would-be burglar got into his car and started to drive away. The resident was standing in his driveway and reported that the Stiles tried to run him over with his car and then drove away. After a brief search, the responding deputy found Stiles driving the vehicle the resident had described, a black 1994 Ford Probe. Stiles was detained while the deputies conducted the investigation. Stiles had given the deputy a false name but when additional deputies arrived they were able to correctly identify the suspect as Daryl Stiles.

Stiles was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and attempted burglary. Stiles is currently on probation with a “search and seizure” clause. Subsequent to his arrest (and in compliance with his search and seizure clause), Stile’s car was searched. Inside his car deputies found firearms, drugs, and more than twenty items of stolen property. That property included several car stereos, power tools, audio-speakers, and compact discs. Deputies recognized some of the property as having been listed in previous burglary reports they had taken in the McKinleyville/Fieldbrook area. As of this writing, the property has been linked to three separate burglaries.

Stiles was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on the following charges:

Carrying a Concealed Weapon
Carrying a Loaded Firearm
Receiving or Concealing Stolen Property (2 counts)
Grand Theft of a Firearm
Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Other than a Firearm)
Attempted Burglary
Possession of Burglary tools
False Identification to a Peace Officer
Possession of Marijuana (greater then 28.5 grams)
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession of Controlled Substance Paraphernalia
Driving when unlicensed

Siles’ bail has been set at $70,000.
