You may pay your property tax bill(s) online or over the phone. The accepted payment methods are e-check, debit card or credit card. Payments made online or over the phone will incur a service fee as follows:

Service fees are charged by Official Payments Corp., not Humboldt County.

County Departments and Their Responsibilities

Department Duties Call for questions regarding:
  • Locates all taxable property in the county and identifies ownership.
  • Establishes a taxable value for all property subject to property taxation.
  • Applies all legal exemptions.
  • Completes an assessment roll showing the assessed values of all property and transmits the assessed values to the County Auditor-Controller.

Auditor Controller:
  • Computes the amount of taxes due.
  • Computes rates for school bonds.
  • Apportions and distributes to the various entities the property tax monies collected by the Tax Collector.
  • Computation of your property tax
Tax Collector:
  • Mails the property tax bill and collects the amount due that was computed by the Auditor-Controller.
  • Current year payments
  • Prior year delinquencies

Public Auction of Defaulted Properties

A tax sale of Humboldt County tax defaulted properties will be conducted from February 22rd through February 25th, 2014 for defaulted properties. Visit to register and preview available properties. A list of available properties is also available on our Auction Info page. Additional information is also available in our Frequently Asked Questions document (requires Adobe Reader).

Property Tax Update

Secured property tax bills for the fiscal year 2013/14 were mailed October 1st. If you didn't receive a bill, contact the Tax Collector's office. Failure to receive a bill does not excuse late or non-payment under State Law.

Unsecured Taxes Due

Humboldt County Property taxes on business, property, boats, and airplanes were due by Friday, August 31, 2013. Call the Tax Collector's Office if you have questions.

County Treasurer's Portfolio Update

The Humboldt County Treasurer acts as banker and portfolio manager for most of the public agencies within Humboldt County. The present portfolio of more than $270 million represents deposits from schools, special districts, and the county. The portfolio objectives are: SAFETY, Liquidity, Yield.
