Food Stamps

The Food Stamp Program started in 1964 and is mandated under the Welfare and Institutions Code, sections 18900-18919, which reflects Federal Law. The program allows low income households to have a healthier diet by increasing their food purchasing power. The program provides eligible households with redeemable Food Stamp coupons that may be used to purchase food items. Many families receiving CalWORKs TANF are automatically eligible for this program. Other persons are eligible based on income and resources. Allotment levels are determined by household income and are subject to annual cost of living increases.
