Medical and dental services in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility are provided through a contract with California Forensic Medical Group.  Medical and dental services are provided to inmates as needed to maintain their health.  Optional and corrective services are not provided.

HCCF Medical StaffIt is the inmate's responsibility to request medical or dental services.  Medical emergencies are given immediate treatment.  Inmates with non-emergency medical or dental needs are required to fill out a Medical Request Form.

Inmates may see a private doctor of their choosing.  The inmate may make these arrangements with the facility medical staff.  The inmate is responsible for paying for the visit in advance.  The appointment will be made by the facility's medical staff.

Mental Health Services

Mental health services are provided by the Humboldt County Mental Health Department.  Several members of the Mental Health Department are assigned to an office located in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

Medical Co-Payment
Inmates with money in their Inmate Trust Account are charged a $3.00 fee for medical, mental health and dental services and a $.50 per dose fee for over-the-counter medications.  Inmates will not be denied services or medications because of an inability to pay for services.  No co-payment fees will be accessed for:

  1. Intake Medical Screening

  2. Safety cell or Restraint Chair placement evaluations

  3. Follow up to issues identified at the intake medical screening

  4. Fourteen day health assessment

  5. Mental Health referrals by health care staff, corrections staff and mental health staff

  6. Follow up to issues for which a co-payment has already been accessed

  7. Prenatal services and all services relating to pregnancy

  8. Public Health programs which are funded by other sources

  9. X-rays

  10. Blood and urine tests, unless otherwise required to pay as part of a program agreement

  11. Health education

  12. Required immunizations

  13. Doctor visits

  14. Work clearance

  15. Conditions which cause severe pain, or which are life threatening, or which are emergency services

  16. Health care staff follow up to monitor chronic health and mental health conditions

  17. Diagnosis or treatment of communicable diseases
